Nearly 80 veterans from the Upper Peninsula were in Washington recently taking a trip back in time as they walked the National Mall.

According to ABC12, among the 80 were two World War II veterans that were visiting the memorial for the first ever. Can you imagine the emotions those men were feeling while seeing a memorial built in their honor? Even though they said they didn't play a big part in the war they know the memorial is a great reminder to visitors of the sacrifices made.

This holiday weekend I believe we should all think about those that gave their lives for this country. My dad was in the Airforce and brother was in the Navy and while neither spent time in a war, they still served our country and that is something you have to respect.
