Why More People Could Be Moving to Michigan in the Future
Michigan could see a spike in population in the coming years.
Climate change is a touchy topic with a lot of people, especially those that don't believe it's a real issue. We're not here to debate climate change or anything of that. We're simply telling you what some scientists predict will happen.
It's said that things are going to worsen in the future. We're going to see more wildfires that are brought on by drought. Parts of the country will also face more extreme weather conditions and rising sea levels.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, The extreme heat that's expected to become deadlier elsewhere won't afflict the region as much here.
These changing conditions will more than likely drive people from certain parts of the country to more attractive places such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Michigan truly has a lot to offer with its ample freshwater sources. We also won't be facing some of the extreme weather conditions that other parts of the country will.
In the future, Michigan could become one of the most attractive states in the country.
Environment and sustainability professor Dr. Derek Van Berkel:
Compared with the dry Southwest, the storm-ridden Gulf region, and the sea-level rise exposed East and West Coasts, the Great Lakes region may fare relatively favorably due to an abundance of natural resources and projected climate amenities.
How soon could we see more and more people moving into the Great Lakes region? I'm not sure what the timeline is for something like this. Honestly, I hope it's not in my lifetime.
There's an interactive map that shows the natural and social risks the Great Lakes region faces, you can check it out here.
