William DuVall, singer of Alice in Chains, discusses everything from his new band Giraffe Tongue Orchestra to AIC's current gig opening for Guns N' Roses on the Not in This Lifetime Tour in our interview.

William DuVall popped up on most people's radars after joining Alice in Chains as their singer in 2006. The gig didn't have any labels at the time, and was initially just so they could do a tour, but his tenure went from seasonal to full-time pretty quickly. It's not easy to step in for a beloved, iconic singer who has passed on. DuVall handles that task skillfully and respectfully.

William is currently on the road with Alice in Chains where the band is in a rare support role on Guns N' Roses' Not in This Lifetime Tour. Before getting into his most recent project, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, we discussed opening for GN'R, as well as the timetable for new music from AIC.

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is a band I would refer to as a "supergroup" if term hadn't been so improperly used in the last 15 years that it now carries a negative connotation. Let's just call it a-band-of-dudes-that-you-already-know-who-have-made-a-bunch-of-music-you-enjoy-separately-but-now-they-make-music-together. That has a nice ring to it, right?

The ridiculously talented lineup includes Brent Hinds of Mastodon and Ben Weinman of Dillinger Escape Plan on guitars, Pete Griffin of Dethklok on bass, and Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta on drums. Not too shabby, eh? Their debut album, 'Broken Lines' is set to release on September 23rd via Party Smasher Inc., but is available for pre-order now. William says he can't wait for people to hear it, and discussed a number of other things as well, including the possible return of his pre-AIC project Comes With The Fall (which you need to check out if you haven't yet) and even briefly mentioned wanting to play at The Machine Shop in Flint. Fingers crossed.
