Woodchips BBQ and Lightning Rounds for Sale in Lapeer, MI

Patrick Hingst announced on social media today that he is putting his Lapeer businesses, Woodchips BBQ and Lightning Rounds, up for sale.

Woodchips BBQ is located in downtown Lapeer at 315 West Nepessing Street, and Lightning Rounds Bar & Grill is at 266 Lake Nepessing Road.

As you can imagine, this came as quite a shock. Woodchips has been open for 12 years, and Lightning Rounds opened in March of 2024.

To be clear, this will not happen overnight, and business as usual will continue at both of these Lapeer County restaurants.

In fact, the team at Lightning Rounds is putting together a new brunch menu, complete with sing‑along brunch events.

Booth seating will soon be added at Woodchips BBQ. In the video below, Patrick Hingst explains that his main priority is continuing to grow while making sure his teams at both locations are well taken care of.

This wasn’t an easy decision, and the goal is to find the perfect owner(s) for each of these beloved local spots.

Hingst made it clear that he has no plans to leave Lapeer County. He will continue to be an active and dedicated supporter of the community, remaining a champion for local businesses, events, and residents alike.

For many years, both restaurants have supported the community by serving free holiday meals, chicken dinners, and hosting the Lapeer FREEdom Fest, which features live music and more.
