Staind's upcoming seventh studio album is said to be a return to the band's heavier roots. Many bands say "this is the heaviest thing we've ever done" (I'm looking at you Foo Fighters), but Staind may have actually delivered on that oft-broken promise with their new track 'Eyes Wide Open'.

While the old saying "You can't go home again" is usually true, it appears that Staind has broken that trend. Many bands try to recapture their previous glory by promising a "return to the band's roots", the latest failed attempts that come to mind are Korn's 'Korn III: Remember Who You Are' and Metallica's 'Death Magnetic'. If Staind's new song 'Eyes Wide Open' is any indication of what the new self titled album (formerly 'Seven')  sounds like; they may have done exactly as they promised.

In an interview with our very own Anne Erickson at Rock on the Range 2011, Staind singer Aaron Lewis and guitarist Mike Mushok said "heavier" in unison when comparing the new album to 'Dysfunction'. We'll find out how the rest of the songs stack up on September 13th. There is no word on whether 'Eyes Wide Open' is going to be a single, although it was previously reported that the first single 'Not Again' was set to hit radio July 18th.
