‘Ad Astra’ Trailer: Brad Pitt …. In! Space!
The long wait for Ad Astra — the first science-fiction movie from The Lost City of Z director James Gray — is almost over. The first trailer arrived this morning, featuring Brad Pitt on a gorgeous looking adventure into the cosmos in search of his father (Tommy Lee Jones). What was Tommy Lee doing out there? Something involving some mysterious substances and experiences. None of it looks good. And it might have to do with a “Surge” that killed people all over the globe.
Although the trailer is fairly straightforward, I’m guessing the answers to these questions are a bit more surreal and Kubrickesque than this clip lets on. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:
Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.
I like everything about this. I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time. Gray announced the movie some three years ago and it was supposed to come out in January of this year, which then became May of this year, and now the fall. I blame the Great Surge for the delays. Ad Astra opens in theaters on September 20.
