Alice in Chains’ ‘Rainier Fog’ Album Gets ‘Black Antenna’ Film Companion
Alice in Chains' Rainier Fog album paints a visual for the listener, but the band is now giving the fans more bang for their buck with a new film companion featuring the music from the album.
The group teamed up with producer/director Adam Mason to create a 90-minute sci-fi film titled Black Antenna that will be rolled out in 10 episodic segments at the beginning of the new year. Each episode from the film is set to a different song on the Rainier Fog album. Check out a teaser for the Black Antenna film below.
“I’m a longtime fan of the band,” says Mason. “And this was an opportunity to do something fresh and inspiring from an indie filmmaking side. The sound and vision between album and film are closely intertwined – it was a brilliant synergy that led to a really unique project.”
“We’ve always toyed with the idea of creating videos for every song on one of our albums,” says drummer Sean Kinney. “Not only did we do that for Rainier Fog, it got totally out of hand and we made a whole goddamn movie. Everything that will be seen in the videos will be footage from ‘Black Antenna’ to preface the complete film’s release.”
Rainier Fog arrived in late August, debuting at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart, but topping both Billboard's Rock Alternative and Hard Music Charts. It was also No. 1 on iTunes' Rock Album Chart, and earlier this month it was revealed that the band had received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album for the disc.
The band toured extensively in support of the album earlier this year, and will catch a little holiday breather before firing up the touring machine again. The band will play a brief tour of Australia and New Zealand in March, then head over to Europe for a tour leg in May and June. See all of their scheduled dates here.
