All Michigan Secretary of State offices will be closed through Tuesday due to a major weekend computer upgrade project. This includes all online services as well.

According to ABC12, the new computer system is replacing decades-old technology. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson calls it a "vital project" that has been in the works for a while now. While the upgrades are being installed, all branches and online site will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

I saw people asking on ABC12's Facebook page whether or not their fees would be waived and the answer is yes. Late fees will be waived if someone has an expiration date between Feb.11 and March 2.

One of the benefits with the new upgrade is that vehicle owners won't have to visit a Secretary of State branch as often. Woohoo, there's nothing more painful than sitting and waiting in the Michigan Secretary of State office.

Some of the other benefits include being able to order a license plate, renew a snowmobile registration or order a state park passport online.
