The Oakland County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team has won the hearts of Michigan and the nation with their heroic deer rescue.

On Monday, October 13th, 2025, a four-point buck was stuck between a cement barricade along southbound I-75 in Auburn Hills. Thankfully, a driver saw the trapped animal and called authorities.

The specialized Search and Rescue team from the Oakland County Sheriff's Department was called in to provide additional support. Their expertise was needed to safely and effectively free the deer from the tight space between the cement barriers.

As you’ll see in the photos below, the poor deer was completely trapped. It is hard to imagine how a passerby even spotted it, but I am so glad they did.

How did the Oakland County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team get the deer out?

According to People, responders utilized straps and a specialized rescue truck to safely lift the deer from between the barricades. The rescue effort shut down both northbound and southbound traffic in the area for roughly one hour.

What happened to the rescued deer in Oakland County?

The good news is that, other than some bruising, the deer was determined to be okay by an on-site Animal Control team and taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Shout out to everyone who helped rescue the trapped deer, from the driver who reported it to the Oakland County Search and Rescue Team. What an incredibly lucky buck.

Here is to a safe deer season in the Great Lakes State.
