Kroger and Walmart Yank Bread From Michigan Shelves—What to Know
Since when did recalls become the norm in our everyday lives?
It feels like every week we’re hearing about another product getting pulled. I mean, I’m glad the information is getting out to consumers, but seriously, what is going on?
This time around, it’s bread being yanked from Kroger and Walmart shelves across Michigan.
Lewis Bake Shop Bread Recalled Over Undeclared Hazelnuts
According to the FDA, Hartford Bakery, Inc. has issued a recall for its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf. The issue? It may contain hazelnuts, and the packaging didn’t make that crystal clear. Sure, it says “May contain tree nuts,” but it doesn’t actually say hazelnuts, which can be a big deal for people with allergies.

The good thing is, we’re not talking about thousands of loaves here. Roughly 883 are affected by this recall.
While there haven’t been any major health reports, one customer did experience digestive issues, and others spotted the nuts before taking a bite. That could’ve turned into an ugly situation for someone with a severe allergy.
If you picked up this bread recently, don’t eat it. Return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
