Clayton Township Police Warn Residents of Alleged Credit Card Phone Scam
Residents in the area have been getting phone calls from what looks like a local number.
As soon as you answer the phone you hear a recording saying “this is about your credit card and at this point, there is nothing wrong with your credit card but we are calling to make a percentage reduction.”
According to NBC25, The Clayton Township Police have been warning residents to just hang up when they receive one of these calls.
I know for a fact that these calls aren't being made to only Clayton Township residents because I took one of these calls this past Friday. It was really weird because it did look local and the phone number was really close to my own. I answered the call but quickly hung up. The only reason I answered in the first place was because the number looked local.
I'm not sure what happens if you stay on the line but I don't suggest you take the chance.
