Well, that’s not something you see every day in Bay County. Police got quite the call on Tuesday afternoon when someone spotted what they thought was an alligator just chilling in someone's front yard.

Turns out, it wasn’t an alligator at all. It was a 3-foot South American Crocodile. Either way, it’s not exactly the kind of thing you expect to run into in Michigan. And honestly, it’s not exactly something you want to run into either.

According to Mid Michigan Now, officers with Hampton Township Public Safety showed up around 3:30 in the afternoon and, thankfully, managed to wrangle the little dude without losing any fingers. The croc was safely captured and is now living its best life at the Birch Run Zoo.

Good thing someone spotted him when they did. A Michigan winter is definitely not made for crocodiles, and this guy wouldn’t have lasted long once the temps drop and the snow starts flying.

The big question is how a South American Crocodile ended up wandering around Bay County in the first place. Honestly, I think we all know the answer to that because we’ve seen stories like this before.

It usually comes down to someone deciding it would be “cool” to own a crocodile, right up until the moment they realize it’s a high-maintenance, teeth-filled headache. It sounds awesome at first, until you actually have to care for it, feed it, and keep it from biting your face off.
