Did You Know These Two Sandwiches Were Invented In Michigan?
Two sandwiches were invented in Michigan, and chances are you have never heard of one of them.
What sandwiches were invented in the Great Lakes State?
Two sandwiches invented in Michigan are the ham sandwich and the cudighi sandwich.
According to Love Food, the Detroit version of a ham sandwich is as follows,
Thick slabs of house-baked ham, often cut straight from the bone, piled into a soft white roll with pickles and yellow mustard.
The popular food website also adds that a ham sandwich was an inexpensive and filling option for Detroit workers. I should point out that the United Kingdom is also credited with inventing the ham sandwich.
What is on a cudighi sandwich?
Great question! I had never even heard of a cudighi sandwich until today. Love Food describes the Michigan-created sandwich as follows,
The heart and soul of the dish is the spicy Italian sausage, cudighi, from northern Italy. This sandwich, though, is very much an Italian American creation, with the sausage slotted in a roll and typically served with ketchup and pickles, like a hamburger.
Food lovers are most likely to find this sandwich in the Upper Peninsula. However, you could always attempt to create your own. Check out the videos below for more on the cudighi sandwich.
Pure Michigan flavor! Have you ever had a cudighi sandwich, and if so, did you like it?
