Eddie Vedder + Red Hot Chili Peppers Cover Jimi Hendrix, Prince at Benefit Concert
The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eddie Vedder teamed up for a benefit concert in Los Angeles on Saturday night (Nov. 2). Both acts performed a set before sharing the stage for an epic encore featuring covers of Prince’s “Purple Rain” and a Jimi Hendrix-style “All Along the Watchtower.”
The event raised funds for the Silverlake Conservatory, which was co-founded by Flea back in 2001. The non-profit music school was created in response to cutbacks in arts education programming in Los Angeles public schools. Last year’s benefit show raised over one million dollars.
According to Rolling Stone, the Chili Peppers kicked off the evening with an eight-song set performing “Can’t Stop,” “Suck My Kiss,” “By The Way” and the dusted off 1999 Californication cut “Purple Stain,” which was performed for the first time in four years. Eddie Vedder played a set of Pearl Jam songs including “Better Man,” “Corduroy,” “Can’t Keep” and some choice covers including Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers.”
Students from the Silverlake Conservatory occasionally joined both acts during the evening. To cap off the night, Vedder joined RHCP for covers of Prince's “Purple Rain” and “All Along the Watchtower," which can be viewed below.
The Silverlake Conservatory of Music is located in Los Angeles and facilitates “a dynamic music education” and teaches “beginning and accomplished musicians of all skill levels.” The non-profit’s goal is to “keep our standard of teaching at the highest level while maintaining a friendly, fun and nurturing environment.”
Watch both sets below, and head to the 45-minute mark for the encore. The full set list for the performance can be seen below.
