Beloved Farmington Hills Arcade May Not Be Demolished After All

Redevelopment plans in Farmington Hills have a beloved arcade in limbo.

In a meeting yesterday (1/8/24,) the Farmington Hills City Council put redevelopment plans for the city on hold. The plans include demolishing several buildings on Orchard Lake Road near 14 Mile. Despite being approved by the Farmington Hills Planning Commission, the plans were put on hold so the council could further consider certain aspects.

One of the buildings up for demolition is home to Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. Many people in the area and around the state have pushback against the plans, which involve the building of a new smaller-footprint Meijer store to be built. The plan was approved in November of 2023 as it did adhere to the city planning and zoning regulations.

However, the Farmington Hills City Council is now tasked with whether to approve the plans or not. As for now, the plans are on hold and Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum is safe.
