Frances Bean Cobain’s Estranged Husband Allegedly Seeking Kurt Cobain’s ‘Unplugged’ Guitar in Divorce
The split between Frances Bean Cobain and her estranged husband Isaiah Silva has been a tumultuous one so far, and according to a new TMZ report, Silva is seeking a treasured Cobain family heirloom in their divorce proceedings. The musician claims that Frances Bean gave him Kurt Cobain's Martin D-18E guitar as a wedding present and the instrument is a bone of contention in the proceedings.
The acoustic-electric guitar is notable as it was played during the famous Nirvana MTV Unplugged performance and as Courtney Love revealed in the TMZ interview above, it was the last guitar that Kurt ever played before his death. There were reportedly only 300 of the Martin model made before it was discontinued, and the left-handed Cobain had adjustments made to the instrument so he could play it upside down.
Frances Bean has denied giving Silva the guitar and is asking for it back. The instrument was once insured for $1 million and according to TMZ, experts now believe it to be worth several million dollars.
TMZ caught up with Frances Bean Cobain's mother, Courtney Love, at LAX airport on Tuesday (July 5) and she stated, "It's not his, it's a treasured heirloom of the family. It's not his to take." Love went on to add, "I'm very glad that she's out of this very dangerous and toxic relationship."
It was recently reported that police were in attendance as Frances Bean Cobain began moving her things out of the couple's West Hollywood home. The extra security was reportedly asked for after some of Cobain's friends came to start the move earlier in June and things got heated.
Radar Online also recently obtained a police report filed by Silva in which he claimed that he was accosted by Sam Lufti and another assailant. Lufti, the former music manager of Love, allegedly grabbed Silva and then chased him to his vehicle. The report stated that the suspects were accused of using bodily force on the musician during the alleged early June attack.
