Genesee County Woman Wins $500,000 Playing Lottery for First Time

Talk about beginner’s luck. A Genesee County woman who had never played the lottery before hit the jackpot, winning $500,000 on a Michigan Lottery instant ticket.

The ticket was purchased in Grand Blanc at Saginaw Fuel Mid LLC on South Saginaw Street.

Here’s the kicker - she did not even purchase the winning ticket herself. The $5 Detroit Tigers Michigan Lottery instant ticket was given to her as a gift, making her $500,000 win even more surprising.

This story gets even crazier. According to Michigan Lottery Connect, the woman who wishes to remain anonymous did not even scratch the ticket herself,

I didn’t know how to play it since I’d never played the lottery before, so I just set it aside and never scratched it. A few days later, a family member saw the ticket laying around, so I told him he could scratch it for me.

I was cleaning up after dinner when he asked if it was some sort of prank ticket because it showed a $500,000 win. I figured he was joking, so I kept on cleaning the kitchen. He walked over to me and handed me the ticket with shaky hands. When I saw the $500,000 win, I didn’t believe it was real until I took it to the store and had the clerk scan it. It still doesn’t feel like this is really happening!

You cannot make this stuff up. I have a Michigan Lottery ticket at home that I forgot to scratch yesterday. What are the chances that I have a $500K winning ticket waiting for me? Most likely, slim and none.
