If you have lived anywhere near Grand Blanc for a while, chances are you have driven past the Auker Mansion and wondered what was actually going on with it.

This place has been on and off the market for years. Listed. Pulled. Rumored about. Then listed again. At times, it felt like the mansion was stuck in permanent limbo.

A couple eventually bought the property and started putting serious work into renovations. Their vision was bigger than just flipping the house. They wanted to turn the massive estate into a wedding venue, the kind of place people would actually travel to.

There was just one problem. At the time, Grand Blanc Township would not allow it for some reason.

That decision stalled everything. After major renovations, the home was put back on the market, but it never moved. It left a lot of people wondering what was going to happen next.

Now, that has changed.

According to the owners of what’s now called Cruwood, renovations are officially back on. After a year of working with Grand Blanc Township, the plan is to spend the next six to eight months bringing the entire estate back to life.

The end goal is to transform the Auker Estate into a premier wedding venue, something they originally envisioned when they bought it.

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the home back in April of 2024, and the amount of work already being done at that point was nothing short of impressive. Even then, it was clear this wasn’t a quick flip. There was real attention to detail everywhere you looked.

After years of stops, starts, and uncertainty, it’s good to see this Grand Blanc landmark finally moving forward. And honestly, we’re happy for owners Corey Cunningham and Chelsie Welch. They’ve put in the work, stuck with it, and now it looks like their vision is finally getting a real shot.
