Grand Blanc’s Six-Month Lottery Mystery Unveiled…Sort of
Well, it's about time.
After six months of waiting, we finally know who won the massive $842 million Powerball jackpot in the New Year's Day drawing. Technically, we don't know exactly who won, but we do know how many people scored the jackpot.
The winning ticket was purchased at Food Castle in Grand Blanc and for months we've been waiting for someone to come forward.
Who Won the Powerball Jackpot?
During a press conference earlier today (Tuesday), the Michigan Lottery announced The Breakfast Club as the winner. According to ABC 12, an attorney representing the lottery club did not name the three winners who are members of the club.
We also have no idea where exactly the winners are from. However, we do know that they reside somewhere in mid-Michigan.
The winners did as most people do and elected to receive the lump sum, which, after taxes, comes out to be $305 million.
It's unclear why they waited so long to come forward, but I would imagine they wanted to get everything in order first. When you think about it, their lives were completely changed on January 1, 2024.
In Michigan, winners of multi-state lotteries such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life must be publicly identified according to state law. However, individual winners who are members of a lottery club are not obligated to have their names disclosed.
Food Castle Receives $50,000
As the winning lottery ticket was bought at Food Castle in Grand Blanc, the store was awarded a $50,000 check.
