Fisher ran a 13:52.440 Wednesday afternoon to secure his spot in the final, placing him 4th in his heat, and 4th overall on the day.
Grand Blanc's Grant Fisher competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics 10,000-meter finals on Friday afternoon. Fisher held a steady position throughout the race towards the front of the pack. But in the last two laps, Fisher, who was hugging the inside of the track was pushed further back in the heat for the final lap. He kicked into high gear and nabbed the bronze medal for the USA.
His finish time was 26:43.46.
Grand Blanc's Grant Fisher is making a return to the Olympics, set to represent the US Track and Field Team for the second time.
At 27, Fisher aims to break the American drought in distance racing at the Paris Olympics. He will compete in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. In the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Fisher finished fifth and ninth in these events.
A two-time state and national cross-country champion, Fisher is now targeting Olympic gold to add to his impressive list of achievements.
In a recent interview with Billy Mills, the last U.S. Olympic 10,000-meter winner, he stated that he thinks Fisher has what it takes.
Mills expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming 10K race, saying:
We have a runner in the 10K this year who I believe has that total gift of focus and talent. I am excited.
Fisher holds the American record in both events and is the ninth-fastest performer ever in the 10,000 meters, with a personal best of 26:33.84.
Fisher will take on the 10,000-meter finals race tomorrow (Friday) at 3:20 pm.
He will compete in "heats" race of the 5,000-meter on August 7 at 5:10 am. The 5,000-meter final is slated for August 10 at 1:50 pm.
