Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson has announced his candidacy for Michigan governor.

Swanson announced the news yesterday, Thursday, February 6th, 2025, to a packed house at Mott Community College in Flint.

I wasn't Mott, but I did watch live on YouTube. As soon as Sheriff Swanson entered the room, he was greeted by cheers and applause. He then took the stage and gave an inspiring speech in true Swanson fashion.

Some key notes were the IGNITE and GHOST programs he implemented in Flint, Michigan. Sheriff Swanson asked Michigan residents to join his campaign, and 'walk with me'.

The invite to walk with him stems from 2020 when Sheriff Swanson encouraged not only Genesee County, but the nation to walk together after the death of George Floyd.

Sheriff Chris Swanson is running as a Democrat against the following candidates,

  • Jocelyn Benson (Democrat)
  • Aric Nesbitt (Republican)
  • Mike Cox (Republican)
  • Mike Duggan (Democrat)

Michigan will elect its next governor on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2026.

You can see a clip of Sheriff Swanson announcing his candidacy for governor, and the entire speech below.
