FDA Announces Dog Treat Recall in Michigan + 18 Other States

The Food and Drug Administration is issuing a recall for dog treats due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall is for 19 states including Michigan.

No illnesses have been reported due to the contamination according to Newsweek, but Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. of Lenoir, North Carolina issued the recall as a precautionary measure.

What Are the Details of the Recall?

Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. is recalling 16-ounce bags of 'Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips' due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The treats were distributed to retail locations across 19 states and online through the company's online portal.

The dog treats were distributed to the following states:

• Alabama
• Arkansas
• Florida
• Georgia
• Illinois
• Indiana
• Kansas
• Kentucky
• Louisiana
• Michigan
• Mississippi
• Missouri
• North Carolina
• Ohio
• Oklahoma
• Pennsylvania
• South Carolina
• Tennessee
• Texas

The treats that are possibly contaminated are from lot number 20051324L2 and have an expiration date of November 13, 2025.

Signs of Infections in Animals:

Pet owners are urged to keep an eye on their pets for signs of infection, including lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, or vomiting.

Humans who hand potentially infected dog treats should be aware of Salmonella exposure as well. In humans, the symptoms can be similar to those listed above as well as abdominal cramping and nausea.

This recall comes just days after 167,000 pounds of ground beef were recalled from a Michigan packing plant due to possible E. Coli contamination.
