I've heard of streets, buildings and parks being named after politicians. But a sandwich? That's a new one for me.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley now has his very own sandwich at Hoffman's Deco Deli & Cafe in downtown Flint. And while having a sandwich named after you is pretty cool, there's actually a much bigger reason behind it, according to the City of Flint.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley Gets His Own Sandwich

The deli officially introduced the Mayor Neeley Signature Sandwich on Tuesday, October 20, with Neeley, restaurant owner Heath Hoffman and YWCA of Greater Flint. CEO Deandra Larkin on hand.

And here's the best part. Proceeds from the sandwich will benefit the YWCA of Greater Flint's domestic violence program, which helps individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

What's on the Mayor Neeley Signature Sandwich?

So, what's on the mayor's sandwich?

Turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and honey Dijon, all served on multigrain bread. Sounds pretty good to me.

Flint Restaurant Gives Back to the Community

Hoffman's Deco Deli & Cafe has been serving the Flint community for more than 16 years and recently made the move downtown.

The restaurant is also collecting donations for the Boys & Girls Club, and Mayor Neeley says he plans to make a personal contribution to that effort as well.

Sandwich Sales Will Support the YWCA of Greater Flint

Neeley says he's honored to have a sandwich named after him, but what makes it special is knowing that every purchase can help support the YWCA and the people who depend on its services.

And really, that's what makes this such a great idea. You can stop by a local restaurant, grab some lunch and help support an organization that's doing important work right here in Flint.

Not bad for a turkey sandwich.
