Unveiling The Full Story: Michigan Murder Spotlighted On ‘Dateline’
The popular NBC show Dateline will once again bring the mystery back to Michigan this week focusing on a case that shocked the state in 2017. For a second time, the senseless murder of Egypt Covington will take center stage on the investigative crime show.
Egypt Covington was a well-known local singer around Ann Arbor for her performances and a well-liked former employee of Fraser’s Pub in the city as well. The crime sent waves through the community due to the nature of her death.
Egypt Covington was found murdered in her Van Buren Township on June 23, 2017, as the result of a robbery gone bad. In a March court testimony, it was revealed that Egypt Covington’s accused killers were trying to rob her neighbor when they murdered the 27-year-old.
According to Mlive, Timothy Eugene Moore, Shandon Ray Groom, and Shane Lamar Evans were all charged with the brutal murder. All three of the men were convicted and sentenced to prison for their roles in killing Covington.
Shortly after her murder Arbor Brewing Company released a seasonal beer, "A Girl Named Egypt", in her honor with a portion of sales donated to a foundation in her name to support charities related to music scholarship, animal welfare, and victims of domestic abuse.
