Comedy Legend Jon Glaser May be Detroit City FC’s Biggest Fan
Many people don't know that comedy legend Jon Glaser was raised in Southfield and is a University of Michigan alum.
Glaser has been a part of some of the most successful comedies to date. He's helped write Late Night with Conan O’Brien, SNL, Human Giant, and Wonder Showzen and has appeared in TV shows like 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Wednesday night, he appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new series Dinner with the Parents. When he arrived, Detroiters everywhere were pleasantly surprised to see he was rocking Detroit City FC gear from head-to-toe.
Glaser's vibrant get up prompted Fallon to nearly immediately ask "what is going on with the outfit?"
To which Glaser replied
I'm from the suburbs of Detroit. This is Detroit City FC, it's the local soccer club. They're a league below MLS (Major League Soccer) and as everyone out here knows, DCFC just had a huge win in the US Open Cup beating the reigning champs, MLS team, the Houston Dynamo, so, up yours Houston!
If Detroit City FC fans didn't already have enough to smile about with Tuesday night's 3-3 (10-9 AP) cupset, the national attention is the cherry on top of a great week.
Detroit City FC will take on their first-ever Open Cup Round of 16 appearance on May 21st against Indy Eleven.
But if you're wanting to watch DCFC on the pitch before then, they have a home game on Saturday against Pheonix Rising FC. Tickets can be found here.
