Band and orchestra students from Rochester Hills' Hart Middle School took a field trip on November 16th, 2023. The class was taken to see the Detroit Symphony Orchestra followed by a trip to Niki's Pizza in Detroit. The dinner stop is where the trip took an unexpected turn.

Due to the lack of space in Niki's Pizza, the students were moved to another location for their meal. That place was Niki's Lounge, which is right next door to Niki's Pizza. Niki's Lounge is a nightclub that has three clubs and four bars in the same building.

According to reports from the New York Post, the place where the kids were taken to eat is a nightclub on Saturday nights but is also used for groups of over 100 people during the day.

Photos of the kids playing on the poles began circulating quickly after being posted on social media by a school trustee and parent named Andrew Weaver. Weaver has also accused the school district of failing to address the situation properly and of intimidation towards him.
