11 Michigan Beaches Closed or Under Advisories This Weekend
If you're planning to spend part of the weekend at one of Michigan's beaches, you might want to take a minute and make sure your beach isn't on this list.
As of Friday morning, 11 Michigan beaches are either closed or under swimming advisories due to elevated bacteria levels in the water. Most of these closures and advisories are temporary, but it's definitely something you'll want to know before loading up the car and hitting the road.
Why Are Michigan Beaches Closed?

This is something we deal with every summer. After a good rain, bacteria can get washed into lakes and swimming areas. When water tests come back too high, local health departments will either issue an advisory or temporarily close the beach until it's safe again.

Which Michigan Beaches Are Affected?
Before you dive into the list, one quick thing. Even though much of Michigan is under an Air Quality Alert right now, that's not why these beaches made the list. These 11 beaches are closed or under advisories because of elevated bacteria levels in the water. For each beach, we've included its current status, county, and the reason for the closure or advisory.
Check Before You Hit the Beach This Weekend

Just because your favorite beach isn't on this list (below) today doesn't mean you shouldn't check before you leave. Water conditions can change pretty quickly, and beaches are tested throughout the summer. It'll only take a few seconds to check the BeachGuard map, and it could save you a wasted trip.
