Michigan Turns Former Hotel Into Shelter for Homeless Families
Finally, something positive to talk about in Michigan.
According to MLive, a brand new shelter for homeless families with kids is opening in Kalamazoo, and it’s not just another temporary fix.
It’s called The Landing Place, and it used to be a hotel. Now it’s giving families a real place to land instead of getting shuffled around nonstop, and it should help get a lot of families off the streets.

The facility has space for up to 80 families, all with private rooms. Think about that for a minute…that’s actually pretty amazing. Families will have access to a dining area, a kitchen, and a play space for kids. They even converted the old hotel pool into a playroom, which is pretty cool.
Families are expected to start moving in next week.
How This Michigan Shelter Actually Helps Families
This isn’t just about giving people a place to crash.
Families will get meals, support, and access to services that help them find permanent housing. The goal is to actually help people get back on their feet instead of just moving them around. Honestly, this is one of the coolest things I’ve heard in a long time. We need more of this in Michigan.

Why This Is A Big Deal In Michigan
Homelessness has been going up, and a big issue is simple. There just isn’t enough affordable housing.
Projects like this are meant to be a real solution, not just a lousy band-aid.
