A 24-year-old Michigan man was convicted earlier this week of fatally shooting his 8-year-old sister for 'talking back.'

If there's a headline that will send chills down your spine, you just read it. It’s a headline that comes with so many questions, including: What could drive a person to commit such an unthinkable act? Honestly, we may never know.

What Happened That Day?

So let's back up a bit. This heartbreaking story dates back to January of 2021, when 21-year-old (now 24) Gyasi Stribling of Southfield shot and killed his 8-year-old sister for "talking back." I know. It's hard to fathom how someone could be filled with so much rage that they would turn it on their own family.

The shooting happened in the living room of their apartment complex in Southfield. At the time, Stribling told police there had been an attempted robbery, and he even tried to hide his gun. According to a 2021 report from WDIV, police were initially unaware of the true motive.

Bailei was in critical condition for a few days after the shooting before she eventually passed away. Just imagine the pain her family went through, sitting by her side, hoping for a miracle that never came. The whole thing is just so awful.

The Conviction and What Comes Next

According to MLive, a jury convicted 24-year-old Gyasi Stribling of Southfield on Wednesday, April 16, of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his 8-year-old sister, Bailei Singleton. He will be sentenced in May.

This whole thing could have been so easily avoided. But instead, this monster unleashed his fury on his little sister for talking back? Come on. And now there's a good chance he'll spend the rest of his life behind bars because he couldn’t handle a little girl's attitude... if that's even what it was.
