What’s the latest buzz? Michigan police say a St. Charles man was killed earlier this week after he lost control of his car and crashed into an abandoned house... filled with thousands of bees!

According to reports, 54-year-old Patrick Lee Muirhead missed a curve on Wednesday afternoon, which sent his vehicle straight through the side of vacant home. Although several people rushed to help the man after the crash, authorities say there were simply too many bees for them to get close enough. "There were thousands and thousands of bees," Tri-Township Chief Pat Harley told MLive. "Just masses of them."

When emergency personnel arrived, they found Muirhead unresponsive in the yard, where they pronounced him dead moments later. Yet, before firefighters could get close enough to check on the man, they first had to spray a soap-like concoction around the area to snuff out anything that could sting them.

Police do not believe that the bees were the cause of the man's death, but whether or not he would still be alive if help had not been prevented from reaching him by the swarm is anyone's guess.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week. The coroner is asking, “The bees or not the bees…that is the question.”
