Michigan Musician Shares Message of Hope After Overcoming Cancer

Diane Taglioli-Hura has been through a lot. But after beating lung and brain cancer, she's back to playing the flute and hopes to share her message of hope with others.

It All Started With a Fall

Taglioli-Hura tells Detroit's WJBK-TV that she made a trip to the emergency after feeling dizzy and falling a few years ago. It didn't take her doctor long to figure out what was going on.

"The doctor came in and said, 'Well, I know why you're dizzy,' and I said, 'What's going on?' And she said, ‘You have a brain tumor that's the size of a golf ball,’ and I thought you got the wrong patient," Diane said.

She goes on to tell the TV station her team of doctors discovered that she had a genetic mutation that led to lung cancer that spread to her brain.

Cancer Diagnosis

She says processing the news that she had stage-four cancer was a daunting task.

"When you hear that you have stage four cancer of any kind you pretty much have to process what's going on, especially when you're perfectly healthy the day before," Taglioli-Hura said.

But Diane was pleasantly surprised to learn that her treatment was a pill that she takes once a month. Her doctors tell her that a new trend in cancer treatment is to target abnormal substances that cause cancerous tumors.

Never Lose Hope

Diane is once again playing her flute with the Michigan Flute Orchestra and wants other to know that they should never lose hope, regardless of how dire their situation is.

"I want to get a message out to people that there's hope, there's a lot of hope," she said.
