Love Food has ranked the best must-try dish in every state, and Michigan's top pick is no surprise.

If your first thoughts were Detroit-style pizza or pasties, both great guesses, but neither took the top spot.

I think the answer is obvious, according to the popular food website, the must-try dish in Michigan is the coney dog.

Love Food had this to say about this delicious pure Michigan staple,

Various vendors claim to have invented the dish, but you can try some of the finest at American Coney Island in Detroit or at rival spot Lafayette Coney Island, just next door.

Sure, American and Lafayette Coney Islands are legendary, but what about our hometown spots in Genesee or Lapeer County? Who gets your vote for the best Coney Dog?

Is your preference a Detroit-style coney dog or a Flint-style coney dog?

I should point out that Love Food described the Detroit-style coney dog as the must-try dish in the Great Lakes State,

A hot dog served in a steamed bun, coated in chili sauce, and topped with mustard and onions – that's a classic Michigan Coney dog.

If you are new to Michigan, here’s the deal: a Flint-style coney dog does not use chili like most people expect. Instead, it’s topped with a dry, crumbly meat sauce - definitely more meat than sauce. Also, no Flint-style coney is complete without a Koegel’s Vienna hot dog.
