Bad News, Michigan—This Streaming Service Is Jacking Up Prices in 2025
Over the last few years, Michigan residents have been cutting the cord with cable and switching to streaming services for more entertainment options at a lower cost.
What seemed like a great idea at first is now turning into frustration for customers who feel they got tricked into paying more as streaming services hike prices.
One particular streaming service just announced that it will be raising its prices. While some services tend to increase their prices by a few bucks at a time, this company isn’t holding back, as the plan is to jack up its base plan prices by $10.
According to the AP, YouTube announced that it’s upping the price of its streaming service from $72.99 per month to $82.99 per month. This is crazy to me because, in 2017, the service was only $35 a month.
Why is YouTube Raising Its Monthly Price?
The company says the price is going up due to the 'rising cost of content' and other investments. But do they really think customers will accept that over what many believe to be nothing more than corporate greed?
When Will YouTube's Monthly Price Go Up?
If you're already a subscriber, you won’t see a change until January 13. However, new subscribers are already paying the higher price, as the change took effect immediately for them.
I recently tried a free trial of YouTube TV to watch a Lions game one day, and ever since, I’ve been on the fence because the cost was so high. Well, now I know I’m no longer interested.
For the record, YouTube isn’t the only one raising its service prices. They’ve all been doing it since the dawn of streaming. However, rumor has it that we’re going to see big hikes from many streaming services in 2025.
