Michigan Will No Longer Test for Marijuana for Many Jobs

It looks like many jobs with the state of Michigan will no longer require pre-employment marijuana drug screening.

Now before you get too excited about this, notice we said many jobs, not all jobs. There are quite a few jobs that will continue pre-employment drug testing.

What Michigan Jobs Will Still Require Drug Testing?

According to Fox 2 Detroit, drug testing exceptions include jobs requiring a commercial driver's license or those that operate heavy machinery, law enforcement, healthcare workers, jobs that work with prisoners, employees with unsupervised access to controlled substances, and jobs handling explosive materials.

When Will This Go Into Effect?

The Michigan Civil Service Commission voted to remove marijuana from the pre-employment drug screening for most jobs beginning October 1st.

We're also going to point out the obvious that drug testing will still include cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and phencyclidine after the October changes go into effect. The changes are centered around marijuana only.

Despite the legalization of marijuana, it's not legal to smoke in public including outdoor concert venues, bars, parks, patios, sidewalks, and other public areas. The recreational use of marijuana is permitted only in private spaces.
