Twenty-five people have already died while working in Michigan this year, and some of these accidents are hard to even imagine.

The latest happened July 30 in Comstock Township. According to MIOSHA, it was the 25th work-related death reported in Michigan this year.

According to MLive, a 31-year-old business co-owner was standing in a scissor lift while taking apart beams inside a factory. One of the beams came loose and twisted, causing the lift to tip over backward.

The worker struck their head on the ground and died. The person’s name and the business involved haven’t been released.

Think about that for a minute. This person came to work that day like they had probably done hundreds of times before and never made it back home.

Flint Worker Among Those Killed on the Job in 2026

One of this year’s workplace deaths happened right here in Flint.

In February, a 53-year-old worker was helping disassemble an excavator when the machine rotated and pinned him between the excavator arm and the bucket of a front-end loader. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two workers, ages 20 and 21, were also killed after apparently being overcome by hydrogen sulfide while working around a groundwater well in St. Clair County.

In May, two transportation workers were killed while patching potholes along U.S. 127 near Mason. A vehicle lost control, entered the work area and struck both workers.

How Many Michigan Workers Died Last Year?

Michigan had 46 MIOSHA-related workplace deaths in all of 2025. The lowest total listed by the state was 24 back in 2009.

These aren’t just numbers on a list. They’re real people who went to work expecting to come home, and families who are now left dealing with the unimaginable.
