Massive New IMAX Auditorium Coming to a Michigan Theatre This Summer

Something big is coming to a Michigan movie theatre this summer...literally. A massive new IMAX auditorium with luxury recliners and VIP pods is on the way.

Movie theaters face more competition than ever and are doing everything they can to keep audiences excited about seeing their favorite films on the big screen. Streaming really put pressure on the industry, forcing theaters to step up their game with bigger screens, better sound, and luxury seating.

If theaters don’t step up with the latest technologies, they’re going to be left behind. It would be an absolute tragedy if one day we lived in a world without movie theaters. I still get so much joy from going, sinking into those comfy seats, and experiencing a movie on the big screen. Plus, it’s the only time I let myself demolish a pile of buttered popcorn, washed down with a giant orange Fanta.

Metro Detroit’s Biggest IMAX Auditorium Is Coming to Troy

Well, moviegoers in Metro Detroit will be happy to know that MJR Theatres is bringing the largest IMAX auditorium to Troy this summer, complete with luxury recliners and VIP pods.

Pods? Yes! VIP Privacy Pods and LUX Loungers are two- or three-seat setups designed to give you a more private, high-end movie experience. They come with heated reclining chairs, side tables, storage compartments, coat hooks, and a privacy enclosure.

WXYZ says this new auditorium will be the second in metro Detroit, after MJR Southgate, to have luxury recliners in the IMAX.

They haven’t given an exact opening date. All they've said is that it's happening sometime this summer.
