I think some people still don't realize just how brutal the recent ice storm was that tore through northern Michigan. Two weeks later, and the area is still in rough shape.

If you haven’t been paying attention or don’t have loved ones up north, you might be shocked to learn that more than 26,000 people are still without power after that wicked ice storm at the end of March.

Gov. Whitmer declared a state of emergency for 10 counties including Alpena, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Mackinac, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle. It's those 10 counties that still have thousands living without power.

Harold Dippman, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, said:

This is easily the worst ice storm in modern times — in the last 50 years — and you have to go back all the way to 1922 to find something even remotely close. It’s a generational storm; one people will talk about for the rest of their lives.

That statement alone should send shivers down your spine, as it powerfully describes the devastation caused by the storm.
