NWS Issues Red Flag Warning in Mid-Michigan for Windy, Dry Conditions
The National Weather Services has issued a red flag warning for residents in mid-Michigan. The current dry and windy conditions could lead to the easy spread of wildfires in the area.
Several fire crews worked to put out grass fires all over Genesee County yesterday. Now even though it may seem extremely wet in the area, conditions are right to allow for brush and grass fires. The red flag warning is in effect until 8 pm this evening.
This is very important to keep in mind given the time of the year. Many homeowners are now able to get out into their yards and do some spring clean up. I do this every year as well. Pick up all the trash and twigs and dead plants that have emerged since all the snow has melted and throw them in the fire pit. Honestly, it is one of the most satisfying things to do. Clean up the year and get it all back in order, then burn the remnants. It's a great way to welcome the warm weather but you may want to hold off on the fire pit until conditions are better.
