Pac-Man Turns 40 Today, Now I Feel Old as Hell
I had no idea I was only six years old when one of the world's most iconic video games made its debut.
It was on this day in 1980 when Pac-Man was unleashed and began frustrating kids all over the world. Well, technically that yellow bastard frustrated kids in Japan first. He didn't make his way to the United States until October of 1980. Also, it wasn't called Pac-Man, it was called PuckMan.
According to CNN, the game's creator, Toru Iwatani came up with the idea for the game when he grabbed a slice of pizza from a box and had an epiphany: The remaining pizza slices formed Pac-Man's shape, and the rest was history.
The game was simple to understand but a pain in the ass to play and impossible to beat. At least that was the case for me. I was a horrible player, mainly because I didn't have the patience to keep playing after those stupid ghosts killed me. To this day, I can't play the game. Every time I try I get killed by the time I make it to the second level.
I don't suck playing every video game out there, just the ones that are supposed to be very simple. Okay, that's not entirely true either. Actually I'm awful at first-person shooters, anything with airplanes or race cars, and basically everything else. I love to play, I just suck.
Happy birthday, Pac-Man!
