The Queens of the Stone Age / Them Crooked Vultures frontman reveals that he actually died late last year.

In a recent interview Josh Homme says that he underwent surgery on his leg late last year (it is implied that it was in September) and something went terribly wrong. There were complications and Homme says he died on the table. Thanks to the marvels of modern medicine Homme was revived and is now back on his feet. After the procedure he was ordered to get some rest and had this to say about his downtime;

"I was in bed for three months, and I've never done that before so I had time to reflect... I got cleared in the middle of December to walk around again and get out (of) bed, so after three months of just living in my mind I was finally able to walk round again. So I just sprang into the new year, basically...It gave me a great perspective and it's amazing to be alive."

Recently there have been many reports about QOTSA hitting the studio to record the follow-up to 2007's Era Vulgaris. As a huge fan I felt it was more responsible to wait until there was actual confirmation from the band. While Homme has said you can expect new Queens this year, it turns out they are NOT in the studio just yet. The band is in the very early stages of throwing ideas around for the new record. Guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen says that they are "filtering" all their ideas right now to get the "best of the best". He also said that there will be some shows coming up to support the re-release of the debut album (out of print and unavailable for some time now), which is due on March 1st. There have been reports that they will play the whole first album on said tour and also throw in some surprises. I'll keep you posted.
