Rage Against the Machine Blast Right-Wing Brit: ‘Pissweasel’
Rage Against the Machine may not be active as a band, but their twitter account was busy today. Upon learning that conservative British politician turned broadcaster Nigel Farage started a new podcast called "Farage Against the Machine," @RATM asked him to change the name, tweeting, "Failed right-wing British politician Nigel Farage has called his podcast ‘Farage Against The Machine’ This pissweasel IS the machine - peddling the sort of inane, blame-heavy bullshit that the guys in @RATM have been raging against since day one..."
They added the hashtag, #FuckNigelFarage"
Rage guitarist added from his personal account, "Hey UKIP & Nigel Farage: Stop using 'KILLING IN THE NAME' for ur racist/rightwing rallies. We are against everything u stand for. STOP. IT."
Jon Morter, a British radio DJ who famously helped Rage's "Killing in the Name" to become a number 1 hit single in in England in 2009 -- nine years after the band broke up and seventeen years after the song's release -- chimed in with a meme about Farage, saying, "The perfect description of the pathetic, racist, bullshit-peddlar some know as 'Nigel Farage' - Forever from this day I shall refer to him as 'Pissweasel.'"
When one fan noted that the @RATM account "is kind of incredible right now," it responded by quoting another song from Rage's 1992 self-titled debut, "Township Rebellion," asking, "Why stand on a silent platform?"
If you wish Rage was still a band, you can at least get the next best thing with Prophets of Rage, which features Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk, along with Public Enemy's Chuck D and DJ Lord and Cypress Hill's B-Real. That band is co-headlining a summer tour with Avenged Sevenfold.
