In the last two days, two different students in the Kalamazoo area have been arrested for making threats against a school on social media.

Public safety officials in Kalamazoo announced today (11/13/19) that a 16-year-old girl was arrested after making threats against Loy Norrix High School on social media. The young girl is the second teen to be arrested this week for such threats. Another 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday evening (11/12/19) after being the first to threaten the school. The 14-year-old made the social media threats on Sunday night and the 16-year-old student made the threats on Tuesday evening.

These threats are being labeled the reason for a string of similar copy cat threats that have been made throughout the state. This week, threats have also been made in Portage and Parchment and have caused eight school closings and a childcare center to be closed as well.

According to police, making terrorist threats like these are felonies with a possible punishment of 20 years in prison or a maximum $20,000 fine.
