Expect Slowdowns on Silver Lake Road as Trail Work Begins

If you drive Silver Lake Road between Fenton and Linden, expect some delays from time to time.

Construction is officially underway on the new ChoiceOne Bank Trail, and it’s already starting to slow things down, especially around the curve by the lake.

This project has been in the works for a long time, and we’re talking way back since 2016. Once finished, it will create an awesome 1.88-mile trail running along the north shore of Silver Lake.

According to The City of Fenton, the path will connect Jennings Road in Fenton to East Broad Street and Triangle Park in Linden, giving walkers, runners, and bikers a solid new route to use and enjoy.

They’re already out there clearing brush and tearing things up to get the ground ready. You’ll notice flaggers and some lane closures popping up around the curve of the lake. At certain points, traffic will squeeze down to one lane while flaggers wave cars through one direction at a time. You know the routine.

Crews will be out there from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and that’s when delays will pop up the most. Once they’re done for the day, both lanes should open back up.

Right now, the focus is on building the wooden boardwalk through the winter, assuming the weather plays nice. Asphalt is scheduled for the spring and summer of 2026, with the full trail expected to open by late summer 2026.

Yeah, it might be a little annoying for a while, but once it’s finished, this is going to be a pretty solid upgrade for the area.
