Nature lovers looking for an escape during the coronavirus outbreak will have to rule out Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Sleeping Bear Dunes announced yesterday, via a press release, that many of the features in the park will be closed indefinitely amid the coronavirus pandemic. The decision was made after the park observed how guests were behaving. Pictures of the observed lack of social distancing can be found on their Facebook page.

Effective yesterday, April 14th, all the following areas are closed:

  • All park trails
  • trailheads
  • parking lots
  • and picnic areas

Along with these closures, beach fires are now also prohibited until further notice. The Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive also remains closed during this time. To stay up to date on what is happening within Sleeping Bear Dunes, click here.
