If you were planning a trip to Sleeping Bear this weekend, keep in mind that it's going to cost you a little extra money.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a favorite among those in Michigan for getaways and camping throughout the summer. My families like to escape up north to find some relaxation and great outdoor views to recharge the batteries. In my opinion, it is one of the best places to unplug.

Earlier this year, when many things began to close due to the coronavirus pandemic, many parks in Michigan began waiving their entrance fees so Michigan families visit the parks and get some needed fresh air. This weekend, however, that changes for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 25th, visitors will once again be charged a fee to enter the park. Each entry pass will cost $25 and is good for seven days. For those heading north this weekend, you can purchase your entrance pass at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire as well as the Platte River and D.H. Day Campground offices.

These entrance fees help to maintain the facilities and services throughout the parks. Honestly, $25 is a small price to pay to gain entry into all the areas of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Almost everything is open at Sleeping Bear with the exception of:

  • Maritime Museum keeper's quarters
  • South Manitou Island museums & lighthouse

Whether you head up north or just plan on cooking out in your back yard, be sure to get out and get some fresh air this weekend.
