For many people in Mid Michigan, Bishop International Airport is the go-to airport, especially because of Allegiant. Cheap nonstop flights, smaller crowds, easier parking, and no fighting traffic all the way to DTW. That’s why this merger could actually end up being a pretty big deal locally.

Back in January, Allegiant announced plans to merge with Sun Country, and now, after receiving approval from regulators and shareholders, the merger is moving significantly closer to becoming official.

What Could the Allegiant Merger Mean for Flint Travelers?

Right now, nothing is changing. Your flights are good to go, and you have nothing to worry about, which is good because I’ve got one booked in a few months. Whenever airlines merge, people instantly start speculating about future routes, ticket prices, and which destinations could eventually be added or cut.

Allegiant already has a strong presence at Flint Bishop Airport. While no new routes have been announced, the merger could create exciting possibilities for airports like FNT in the future.

Could Flint Eventually Get More Vacation Destinations?

Nobody’s saying Flint is suddenly getting nonstop flights to Cancun next week, calm down. But this merger definitely opens the door to possibilities that probably weren’t there before.

Sun Country already flies to places in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. If the new airline starts expanding routes, Flint could actually be in a pretty solid position to benefit. We'll have to wait and see.
