In the election’s immediate aftermath, we had to wonder if Alec Baldwin had the SNL commitment to keep playing Trump as necessary for such a weekly target. Baldwin’s been a sport since November, even pivoting the impression into other mediums, but may hang up the wig before long . “I don’t [know] how much more people can take it.”

The ranking SNL host suggested as much in an Extra interview with Mario Lopez, nothing that Trump “remains bitter and angry” even after the election; the lack of “sportsmanship” inevitably taking a toll on viewers. Baldwin didn’t offer any kind of timetable for his final appearances, but stated (via EW):

The maliciousness of this White House has people very worried. That’s why I’m not going to do it much longer, the impersonation. I don’t [know] how much more people can take it.

And while the actor will keep his Trump impression going for an entire satirical memoir, we shouldn’t necessarily expect him to fill in for the 45th President at the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner:

I don’t think it’s going to happen. I honestly don’t think that they want that. I think that for their prestige and their integrity — I think a lot of people are thinking that if Trump himself doesn’t come and face the music, as it were, I don’t know what kind of program they’re going to have … If they wanted me to do it, I would probably do it, but I’m not quite sure they do. I think they might have a whole other idea involved.

In the meantime, We’ll see if Baldwin’s Trump pops up during this weekend’s Scarlett Johansson return, so stay tuned.
