With ‘Justice League’ on the way, we’re looking back at the evolution of Batman and Superman’s movie costumes over the years.

The ultimate DCEU team-up is almost here, and we have some expectations. Here’s everything we’re hoping to see in ‘Justice League.’

If Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn were to do a Man of Steel sequel — if he would do it — he knows exactly the kind of vibe he’d try to go for. It seems like Warner Bros. has figured out that grimdark may not be the way to go with their current iteration of the Justice League, and Vaughn may have the solution.

If I learned anything about Abu Dhabi from watching the entirety of Sex and the City 2 while sitting in a tattoo parlor waiting room (which actually happened and is not a joke), it’s that the United Arab Emirates city is a mecca of wealth. The oil-rich nation has concentrated much of its affluence in its capital, and accordingly, the area has exploded with development in recent years. Skyscrapers have cropped up like so many dandelions, massive tourist resorts now dot the coastline, and high-end boutique shopping caters to such fashionable visitors as Carrie Bradshaw and her pals. And while Abu Dhabi’s latest attraction won’t invite as many Dolce & Gabbana puns as one might like, it will delight comic book fans worldwide.

You know that Christopher Reeve played Superman in four movies in the 1970s and ’80s. And you know he didn’t get to wear a suit that enhanced his muscles like many of the movie superheroes that came after him. But did you know that Reeve got into shape to play the Man of Steel by using a training regimen supervised by none other than David Prowse, the man who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy? It’s true, and it’s just one of the facts featured in the latest installment of You Think You Know Movies!

Who are the Justice League? The group is comprised of a bunch of different heroes in different combinations based on which comic arcs you’re reading at the time, but it always seems to have three core members: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Warner Bros. new Justice League movie didn’t feature the red-caped Kryptonian in this weekend’s trailer, and seems to be acting like he won’t be in the movie. Even Zack Snyder has been cagey about it.

Based on the images we’ve seen so far (and just the images), it’s fair to assume that Justice League is a movie about A. a long-haired metal-head who starts a rock cover band with a group of people in unnecessarily elaborate costumes, or B. a team of superheroes who spend their time aggressively posing and staring at things offscreen. Either way, it seems like it could be a good time.

Look, in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Goodyear tire! No, it’s the new Superman costume from Justice League. Seemingly confirming rumors that the Man of Steel will be wearing a black suit in Zack Snyder’s next superhero epic, Henry Cavill shared a new close-up shot of the Superman costume from the set of the upcoming film — and although you can’t see the entire thing, it is most certainly black.

Has any one person meant as much to the DC Universe over the past 25 years than Bruce Timm? When the animator and TV producer co-created Batman: The Animated Series with Eric Radomski back in 1992, he and his team at Warner Bros. offered a fresh take on an iconic character, finding a balance between the breezy fun of the ’60s Batman and the darker Dark Knight of the ’70s and ’80s. Timm then went on to co-create one of the more entertaining versions of Superman in another animated series, debuting in 1996; and in 2001 he carried the lessons from those two shows into Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, which together comprise some of the best superhero television ever made.

DC fans are expecting some big things from both TV and movies at Comic-Con 2016, and seeing as The Killing Joke might be a little too dark, young animation fans have something to look forward to as well. CBS’ Supergirl made clear from the start that it intended to tell Kara’s story - not her Super-cousin’s - though that didn’t stop the DC drama from awkwardly fumbling around his offscreen presence. Now, in addition to the big CW move, Supergirl will finally introduce a flesh-and-blood (or rather steel) Superman, casting for the iconic role now underway.
