So, stop us if you‘ve heard this one before: it’s now 2016, yet another Rocky picture has dealt the box-office a swift uppercut, and Stallone is done, seriously, you’ll see, he means it now.

Last year saw hope for another Rambo film transforming into a FOX sequel TV series with Sylvester Stallone on board to produce and potentially cameo, though it didn’t take the Rocky franchise star long to distance himself from the project altogether. Now, Stallone reveals both that he’s retired the character of John Rambo, and his “delicate” reason for leaving the TV project.

Creed has been something of a surprise success for Warner Bros. The rare film that is both audiences and critics love and makes money. And you know what that means: SEQUEL TIME!

Sylvester Stallone became a star playing Rocky Balboa, but did you know that United Artists wanted to buy Stallone’s script for Rocky and cast another actor in the title role? Before they finally agreed to let Stallone have the part, they tried to cast actors like Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, and James Caan. That’s just one of the facts crammed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which goes the distance on the original 1976 classic, Rocky.

It may be called Creed, but make no mistake: This is a Rocky movie. This next-gen legacyquel stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson Creed, the illegitimate son of Rocky’s late rival and friend Apollo Creed, who decides to follow in his dancing footsteps and become a professional boxer. He heads to Philadelphia and finds former champ Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) running his restaurant Adrian’s, then convinces him to come out of retirement and help train him for a championship match.

“The way I imagine it, after the fight, he’s riding home in a cab, with the roar of the people chanting ‘Rocky!’ still in his ears. And he just drops over dead. In other words, he has achieved everything possible and he dies when he’s on top. I don’t think people want to see Rocky when he’s 80.”

Let me tell you something, brother: Hulk Hogan wants to star in the next Expendables movie.

“Nothing is over!” These are the words of Col. John J Rambo, the hero of ‘First Blood’ (better known as ‘Rambo’) and then ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’ and then ‘Rambo III’ (the only one people call by its actual title and then ‘Rambo’ (better known as ‘Old Rambo’). After what basically amounts to a movie-long chase, ‘First Blood’ concludes with a heartfelt speech from star Sylvester Stallone, explaining how nothing (meaning the Vietnam War) is over for him; that his mind is too scarred from his brutal deeds and by the cruel treatment he’s received on the homefront. It’s a powerful (if occasionally incomprehensible) scene.

Sylvester Stallone has had two great franchise characters, Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, and was able to resurrect both over the last decade successfully. But though Balboa's gloves are hung up (even if Stallone recently paid homage to that character), it looks like we're going to get a 'Rambo 5' that promises to be one of the most thoughtful of the series' sequels.

When it comes to action movies, sometimes you have to get a bit silly to take some of the edge off. So, every so often, you'll catch a scene where a dude kills another dude in a hilarious, over-the-top fashion that makes you laugh out loud.
