New music from Tenacious D last surfaced on the soundtrack to their film 'The Pick of Destiny' and after a lengthy hiatus, Jack Black and Kyle Gass are set to return with 'Rise of the Fenix' this spring.

Tenacious D is a strange animal -- half comedy, half metal, half acoustic folk (wait, isn't that three halves?) -- that first captured our imaginations with their tales of Sasquatch, Satan, and the greatest song in the world ever since their brief comedy series debuted on HBO in 1997. The band followed with two albums -- their beloved 2001 self-titled debut and the 2006 soundtrack to the film 'The Pick of Destiny.'

'The Pick of Destiny' served as an epic re-imagining of the duo's origins and featured several elements familiar to fans of their HBO series. The film tanked at the box office -- grossing only $8.2 million in the U.S. on a $22 million budget -- but was well-received by fans of the band.

Tenacious D recently announced that their third album -- titled 'Rize of the Fenix' -- will hit stores in May. The band pokes fun at their box office failure before announcing "Just like the phoenix, we'll f---ing rise again" in a recently posted clip of the album's title track. Jack Black previously announced that three songs on the album will be called 'Rize of the Fenix,' each distinguished by a different spelling of the title.

The duo recently toured Australia with the Foo Fighters and will perform at this year's Sasquatch festival, which takes place in Gorge, Washington from May 25th- 28th.
